KEY IDEA: Next year Madeleine wants to study abroad!!!

I am interested in an exchange year because I want to study or live abroad after high school and I have several goals for the program. Since I hope study in a German-speaking country, I expect to be fluent in German by the end of my exchange year. If I am not sent to Germany, then I hope to become proficient in my host country’s language.

I am also excited to try new things and adapt to new situations, something that’s sometimes hard for me. Finally, I want to learn about cultural similarities and differences with my host family and form a long-lasting relationship. I want to be a superior daughter or sister within my host family.

It will be very expensive--$9,000-12,000. But I’m just a high school student. There’s no way I can come up with that much money by myself, short of a Ponzi scheme. Unfortunately, I’m not that twisted or clever, and I will fundraise with a pure heart.

As I am hoping for your support, I must prove my merit to you. Let’s wait a few minutes for my ego to grow… I am a currently a 4.0 GPA student. I volunteer often and have volunteered at the local Humane Society, at the community bike shop, and to help the homeless and low income families in my community. My family has hosted several exchange students with the same program and I consider myself very globally aware.

If you choose to follow this blog, I will keep you posted on my application process, my fundraising, and my exchange year! I would welcome your ideas and feedback!

Thanks so much! Every bit counts.

Madeleine
